A letter to Mum and Dad

Dear Mum and Dad

On the 8th of December 2011 Room 8 had a Christmas art day. We made Christmas ornaments with clay. Then we had morning tea. After morning tea we made reindeer cups. Then we made Christmas crackers. We stuffed our crackers with a balloon, some stickers, a lolly pop and a lolly. Then we had lunch . After lunch was finished we did some backing. We made Christmas chocolate balls. They were delicious. It was mucky and a lot of fun. After we finished cleaning up we got another lolly pop, 2 lollies and a cup full of chocolate Christmas balls. They were delicious. Then we went home.

Year 4 Totara Park Trip


On Monday the Year 4's from Room 8 and Room 4 went to Totara Park for a trip. We learned to collaborate and show resilience. In the morning we played collaborative games. After morning tea we went for a bush walk and had to persevere when we got really tired going up the steps. We had a play on the adventure playground. After a hot tiring walk we sat under the trees and enjoyed our lunch. We couldn't wait to get into the swimming pool. Finally we got dressed and cooled down in an ice cold pool.

Ingredients:
1 packet of crushed arrow root biscuits
1 cup of condensed milk
2 table spoons of cocoa
1 cup of coconut

Method:
Step 1: Crush the bisciuts until fine
Step 2: Add coconut and cocoa.
Mix well
Step 3: Stir in the condensed milk.
Step 4: Form them into balls and
roll then in cocoa

At the drum show a man call Dylan played the drums and do tricks too. Dylan made all the teachers dance funny and we all dance in a train line.

Grass hopper Tennis

I found versing other people fun. I found the practising of different skills very hard. By Joshua

I enjoyed being class champion with Mrs Kotze and Luke M.
The thing that was really hard for me was hitting the ball on the strings and frame.

I enjoyed grass hopper because we learned heaps of new things like hitting the ball on the strings and then on the frame. What I found hard was learning to bounce the ball over the net to my buddy.

This term Room 8 is doing grasshopper tennis. It's fun, but hard. I like it because you get to VS people. It's hard to hit the ball!

Holly's fitness reflection!

The hardest one for me would definitely be push-ups because I have a sore on my knee so I couldn't do it the girl way, and I also couldn't do it the other way because I couldn't keep my knee straight.

The easiest one for me was the sit-ups because I could handle going up and down.

After the circuit was over, I was EXTREMELY tired. I thought I was going to explode!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Baboom, baboom, baboom, my heart is pounding. It all comes down to this . . . And . . . GO! I sprint as fast as I can to the other goal post. "C'mon 5 sit-ups"!

I found myself doing the sit-ups and running really easily because when I was younger, I pulled myself up over a bar so my tummy muscles are quite strong.

"Poofy, puffy, poofy, puffy". Squats are aching my legs. The push-ups were average.
I did:
30 Sit-ups!
40 Push-ups!
42 Squats!
and my heart rate was: 73!

I did:
15 laps!
My flexibility is 7+!

When I was finished, I thought I was gonna die of exhaustion! My legs were like jelly tooth picks! I was EXTREMELY tired, but my mind thought I've just begun because I'm capable. :-)

Lauren's fitness reflections.

'Phew!' It is all over the whole thing is over and done with. The fitness test was challenging. This is my achievements. My heart rate was 79. That was the easy part. Then it gets more challenging because we had to do 5 sit-ups,10 push-ups and 15 squats and laps. I could only do 10 laps but within those laps we had to do 5 sit-ups, 10 push-ups and 15 squats. That was very tiring indeed. I needed a sleep afterward. I did 26 squats, 49 push-ups and 21 sit-ups. I only got 1cm in flexibility and find it quite challenging. Next time I want to do 30 squats, 5 push-ups and 30 sit-ups and that are my targets.

Gabriel


Parallel lines are when the lines are the same distance away from each other. Perpendicular lines are when the two lines make a 90% angle. It was quite fun finding different lines around the school.

Interview Questions

This week in reading and writing we have been learning to identify what good interview questions looks like and in writing we tried to develop good interview questions.

What do some of Room 8 students say a good interview question will look like?

A good interview question is when you make the person to not only answer yes or no.

You can use the 5 W's, are and could as question starters.

Sophiya

A good interview question would look like: A question that can make the answer person spill lots of information on what your subject is and you will get more information on what your researching. Mostly you want to create a good question that will give you info!

This week in Grasshopper Tennis I have learned how to hold the racket properly,to stand properly when holding the racket.

WALT group our ideas together

I like to play a red game.It has two screens,4 buttons on each side on the bottom & 2 cameras
on the outside & in!! I'm a lover of netball & tennis!!!!!!Netball is an excellent sport,to run & block your opponents.It's just so great!!!
WHO LIKES TENNIS MORE THAN ME?!?! Tennis is a wonderful sport,it's always fun when you hit the ball with all your stength and power. It makes you feel good! I want to be a mini tennis player like Maria Shorapova.(Famous tennis player) and I want to be a mini silver fern player!!!!!!!

I have black short,thick hair & dark brown muddy eyes that looks like milo. My skin is a darky taned color,I'm a little bit tall!

I'm so so sporty & like to try brand new sports like: squash or softball (2 new sports to me).
I'm quite brainy because I learn quickly!! I'm also funny & caring. When a person is in need I stand up for them!

My name is Ella. I am 8 years old and was born on the 6 of Febuary 2003.The school that I go to is Reremoana primary school. I have two sisters called Lucy and Katy and to furry friends.

I live in Wattle downs/Auckland.

I have bright, sparkly, blue eyes and dark, dark, brown hair that turns gold when it gets wet.I have a clear soft skin.

I am very weird and funny because I make all of my friends burst into laughter also I'm smart and caring.

In my spare time I like to go shopping,play with my friends,practice my ukalaly and go outside plus read some of my books from home.

The Aqua

"10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1...0!!!!!!"
The big WIDE doors open startling us all. Baboom, baboom, baboom. I think my heart will inplode! My hands feel sweaty, tingly and numb. The tour guide showed us into a black room with posters about water. As we entered into the waterfall room, the water was trickling down into the drain. Some tour guides handed out blue sky raindrops. Suddenly, some of the water got blocked and a gate appeared to a secret entrance...

As we entered the next room everyones jaws dropped! If we're in pairs we'd lift up each others jaws! As we slowly walked into the room, we wondered what the olden-day tap in the middle of the room was there for. Suddenly, it started moving!... A few thought it was a ghost! So the rest of us comforted them. As the tour guide told us to turn around he said "move your hands up and down to create waves, but don't touch the screens". We tried and it actually worked! Waves appeared on the screen as we moved our arms.

Later on, our lights went off. It showed us how bad water pollution is and how its affecting our world. It was so bad, it felt like we were going to cry! But then the olden-day tap was going 'creeek, creeek.' No water was coming out! Lights started flashing, and finally turned off. We lifted up our our raindrops and layed them around the olden-day tap Suddenly, the water started flowing freely. We all sighed with relief. We sadly gave back our raindrops and walked into a different room with touch-screen iPads. We tapped what we would do to help get rid of water pollution. We filled in our details and looked around. Finally... WE HAD TO LEAVE!!!!!!

Space

In Science we have been learning about Space. We had a whole day of learning more about space. We wrote a story to describe what a little Alien would look like. Here are some of our stories.

Lauren in Space

MY MOMENT IN SPACE                                                                                                                                                                            One evening I was lying in bed reading a book all about space and suddenly I appeared in space. I heard a little giggle behind me. I turned around and I saw a cute little alien. It’s name was Isabella. It looked like a square with spikes. She had little arms, medium eyes, little feet, a cute mouth and glitter all over her eye lashes and her spikes. She took me to her palace and let me stay for a sleep over on planet pluto. The next morning she flew me home I ran down stairs and yelled ‘‘MUM’’.

Another Space story

                                         A  DAY IN SPACE!!! 
One evening I was reading an exciting book about space. All of a sudden I felt a slime blue hand on my shoulder and I turned around.  I saw the bluest  greenest color alien. I realised I was in space. The alien looked like a cute little alien. His hair was frizzy and he had chipmunk cheeks and fat lips and one eye. He showed me his home.We were on Venus. He had a brother a little sister a mum and dad. His house looked like a hamburger. He made me a cup of tea and it was scrumptious! We talked and talked till “poof’ I was home again.

Space Stories

A DAY IN SPACE 
One evening I was reading an interesting book about space. All of a sudden I found myself in space! Someone tapped me on the shoulder.
Then I saw this cute looking Alien. The Alien was a girl and her name was Bella. Bella took me to her planet cause we were on Jupiter. She took me to the nearest planet which was Saturn where she lived.
This little cute Alien Bella looked like: she had a green skin. She had a blue suit. She had water fountain hair, she had one  cute Alien eye which was in the middle. Her hair color was chestnut.
Finally Bella gave me a cup of tea. Then my mum called me on my cell phone. I said “bye” to Bella and got in my space shuttle!

one evening  I was reading a interesting book about space suddenly I found my self in space. Someone tapped me on the shoulder. It was a strange looking little alien. He had two legs, one eye, and two antenaes. He asked me were I’m from. I said, I’m from earth. He took me to his house that looked liked a hamburger made out of lettuce. He was green with black spots. He had an alien mother, a brother, a sister and a baby girl.They all looked the same but the mother had long hair.They were doing a barbeque. They had some funny stuff to eat.They had a cockroach, some worms, and a spider. So I asked them if they have a space ship and they said “yes”. So they took me back to earth.

                            I  scoffed on an orange for brainfood 
Ohhh. SOOO juicy! My mouth is watering SOOO much that if I open my mouth it will detonate everywhere with syliva! I can see the flesh and the skin along with little brown dots,the white flesh and the skin,the seeds,juice,the core and a pattern. Ohhh Man,its as juicy as a juicy waterfall! Its round,sweet,sour and of course...IT’S AN ORANGE!!!!!!!!!

My   Goal.
‘’ Pass it to me Trace’’ I said. ‘’Ok!’’ Kick, Kick, Kick! I was getting clogged by the other team, the Clendon titans. I tried kicking around them and I was approaching  my goal. One player came running for me but I jolted him out of the way. KICK!!!!!!!!! Yay!!!! I got  it in! The crowd was roaring at me.VICTORY!!!! I felt amazing.

My goal                                                                                                                           On friday night it was windy. It sounded like a dog howling. Also it was raining like a volcano sqourting out lava. Then it was game time I was ready then the ball went flying. I caught it and I made a run for it like a jaguar sprinting down a race track. I passed the ball to my mate. He passed it back and I leaped like a frog right to the try line and the crowd went crazy.

Information Report on Clarifying Waste Water

How to clean waste water.

Sally came into tell us how to clean waste water.

Firstly it went from our houses  into the primary treatment tank. The screens separates the solids from the water.

Secondly the treatment reactor clarifiers remove all the remaining germs.The super bugs come and help to remove all the left over saps so the fish don't feel horrible.

Thirdly it goes through to the ultraviolet light which takes all the left over germs and kills them all in strong sunlight light.

Lastly it goes to the sea with no germs.

Learning with Sally from Water Care

Today Room 8 learned what happens to water after it goes down a stormwater drain
or down a sewer.  We also learned that there are small insects living in the rivers, and small and larger animals living in the seas. We developed an understanding that if the wrong things are put down drains they can hurt the animals in the rivers and seas.

Room 8 using the white thinking hat to find out facts about water

Facts about water.
It takes one hundred thousand liters of water just to make 1kg of beef. (Katie and Kaitlyn)
When water evaporates it turns into vapor (Zayne and Griffin)
Water can transform into different things like ice blocks, ice bergs, gas (Gabriel and Aaron)
People needs water to stay alive (Victoria and Marianne)
Only 4% of the earth's water is fresh water (Michael and Joshua)
Around 1.2 billion people drink dirty water (Brooke)
70% of the earths crust is just water (Taine)
Over 500 people die a day, because they don't have clean drinking water. (Ella, Amanda and Emma)
When warm water and warm air combines it can create storms and hurricanes (Inspired by Lauren and Holly)
